Most supporters would like to see Celtic back Brendan Rodgers in the upcoming summer transfer window and make some big-money signings in order to help the manager take the club further in Europe and continue their domestic success as well. This squad is on the verge of winning their fourth-straight league title but at times, it has felt like things have stagnated a bit and there is a need to bring in fresh faces in order to avoid a repeat of the 20/21 campaign.

Rodgers' record when it comes to transfers is not as spectacular as his impact as a coach though. Plenty of his signings have failed to make the grade at Celtic over the years.

Last summer, the club were believed to have shelled out a transfer fee in the region of £9 million to sign Adam Idah from Norwich City on a permanent basis after a fantastic loan spell. Auston Trusty was brought in for around £6 million from Sheffield United.

Hugh Keevins has deemed both signings as a 'waste of money'. He said while speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (via 67 Hail Hail):

"When he says ‘new players are required’, yeah, he is right. Auston Trusty. Waste of money. Adam Idah. Waste of money."

Perhaps it might be a bit too early to rule out the likes of Idah and Trusty as failed signings. But they clearly need to do a lot better than they have so far during their time at Parkhead.

Idah has scored 14 goals this season, which is decent for a cover option. But he has not been particularly impressive and never really looked like someone that Rodgers could make the first-choice, even after the departure of Kyogo in the middle of the season. Instead, the manager opted to move Daizen Maeda to a central role.

On the other hand, Trusty has had an up-and-down season. He has put in good performances here and there but overall, he just does not look like the kind of player who will be integral to Celtic's defence for years to come. Is he even better than Maik Nawrocki or Liam Scales?

This transfer record will be what worries Celtic fans going into the summer window. Even if a lot of money is spent, that is no guarantee that the right moves will be made.
