Celtic Women suffered a third straight defeat on Friday as they were beaten 1-0 by Hibernian in the Scottish Women's Premier League.
In a very different game from Grant Scott's first one in charge, which was against Hibs and ended in a 3-2 victory, both sides failed to score in the first half.
Then, it was just eight minutes after the break when Eilidh Adams stepped up for a penalty after a foul on Rosie Livingstone. Adams made no mistake from the spot and sent it past the goalkeeper.
Celtic couldn't find a way back into the game as they again fell short, despite a good attempt on goal in the dying embers. Hibs are now on an unbeaten run of nine games, and the Edinburgh side move up to fourth in the league.
The Hoops have now dropped to fifth place, dropping out of the title race completely.
Fifth place is unacceptable at Celtic
Quite frankly, fifth place is unacceptable at Celtic. We should be competing for the league and should be trying to be the best team in the country; however, we are miles off it.
While the Celts are still technically in contention for the Women's Scottish Cup, they have been drawn against Glasgow City for the semi-final at Hampden. That is an incredibly difficult game, and with the team performing how they are, they will be going out.
We take on City in the league next as well, and that will be very telling for how the cup tie will go. It's going to be incredibly hard to get past them, so Celtic could go trophyless yet again.
Repeating ourselves year after year
It feels like we are repeating ourselves again and again when we demand a full rebuild in the summer. Because of where we finished last campaign, Elena Sadiku was under a lot of pressure. She survived and kept her job; however, Scott could finish even lower in the table. Could that mean the problem has never been the manager, but rather, the club as a whole?
Sadiku expressed her disappointment in the financial department at times during her tenure. She brought in players who have been brilliant for the club, so hopefully, Scott can do the same.
With a whopping 15 players out of contract at the end of the season, whether through expired permanent contracts or the end of their loan deals, there is a lot of work to be done. With Scott basically confirmed to continue in the job, isn't it about time we renew some of these players' contracts?
You would think so, and it wouldn't be a surprise if we have already started. Communication between the fans and the club seems to get worse every season, so there is a chance we just won't be told until the last minute. After all, there has still been no official announcement of Aislin Streicek and Grace Courter leaving after failing to settle in.
On top of all of that, fan media are still banned from attending games and press conferences. There has been no update, despite my personal attempt at communication.
I think we are all waiting for this season to be over, but hopefully, we'll be able to pull off the impossible and walk away with the Women's Scottish Cup. Get to Hampden to back the team, because if you don't believe, it won't happen!
