Jose Mourinho, Marco Rose, Steven Gerrard and Davide Ancelotti. Those are some of the names that had been linked with the Rangers job in recent weeks. Some unrealistic, some ambitious and some exactly what you'd expect. Now, it looks like there is an outright favourite for the vacant Ibrox post. It is one that Celtic fans will love with their rival fans have had the completely opposite reaction.
News has broken out that Russell Martin is closing in on the Rangers job. He is without a club at the moment, having been sacked by Southampton last year.
Admittedly, Martin has had a decent to solid career in the English lower leagues. But he was found lacking in the Premier League. And perhaps most importantly, it looks like a good porition of the Rangers support have given up on the appointment before it has even been made.
As reported by Ibrox Noise, a poll from them found out that 95% Rangers fans were against the appointment of Martin. That does not make for good reading.
Celtic will love Rangers fans' reaction to Russell Martin news
Of course, Celtic fans had a very different reaction. Most sounded delighted that Martin was being brought in at Ibrox.
It is worth pointing out though that no manager should ever be counted out before they have even arrived. A large section of the media made that mistake with Ange Postecoglou and look at how his time at Parkhead turned out. Five trophies in two years. So, let's not risk repeating that mistake.
We do not know how Martin's time as Rangers manager will go. What Celtic can do though is be prepared for the best version of the Ibrox club to show up. Then, if they fall short, it would not be a problem for the Hoops.
