Kyogo is on the verge of joining Rennes. Not many would have seen the move coming even a week back but now, it looks like it is inevitable. With Champions League knockout phase qualification secured, Celtic have seemingly decided to green-light the Japanese forward's exit to the French Ligue 1.
Kyogo might not have been performing at his best under the management of Brendan Rodgers. After all, he scored 34 goals in the season before the Northern Irish manager's arrival. But even then, he was the club's best option up top with Adam Idah in the midst of a goalless run.
So, Celtic will need to find a replacement for Kyogo. Of course, signing a winger and moving Daizen Maeda to a central role is a possible solution. He has shown an eye for goal this season and has 15 to his name already. But signing another striker has to be considered as well.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic are set to rekindle their move for Mathias Kvistgaarden. The £8 million Danish striker himself has told his club that he plans to move on either in this window or in the summer. He was eager to move to Scotland before and is believed to still be keen. So the Scottish champions are ready to ramp up their interest.
Celtic want £8 million striker to replace Kyogo Furuhashi
Of course, saying goodbye to Kyogo will be hard for many fans. It is arguable that he is a modern club legend, despite spending just three-and-a-half years at Parkhead. No one can deny his connection with the support or the countless big goals he scored, in finals, Glasgow derbies and even in Champions League games.
But considering his recent goalscoring record, perhaps it was time to part ways. Rodgers' system clearly never brought the best out of Kyogo.
Kvistgaarden's goalscoring record is cause for optimism if you are a Celtic fan. He has scored 10 goals and provided 4 assists in 15 league appearances for Brondby this season. It is believed that the Hoops have tried to sign him on two occasions in the past. Let's see if it is third-time lucky.
