Celtic are no strangers to signing players from Manchester City, although that route has become less travelled in recent years. The significant one was the addition of Jeremie Frimpong. Back then, the Dutchman was merely another youngster but we all know how things have turned out for him since. He excelled at Parkhead before doing the same at Bayer Leverkusen and now looks on the verge of joining one of the best teams in Europe. A return to the Citizens is not out of the question.

Manchester City have been home to some incredible talents in recent years. Giving them chances has been a difficult task though for Pep Guardiola, as he has continued to challenge for and won the biggest titles in the game.

As a result, there are quite a few who have had to leave Manchester City to prove how good they are. Just look at Cole Palmer's meteoric rise over the past year.

It looks like another Manchester City number 10 is drawing the interest of clubs around Europe. And Celtic seem to be among them.

As reported by CaughtOffside, Celtic are one of the clubs monitoring developments and have more than a passing interest in James McAtee. Manchester City are open to a transfer, given the player’s need for regular football and the club’s own need to meet Financial Fair Play rules.

It is not good news for Celtic that numerous other clubs are in the race to sign McAtee as well. That could drive his transfer fee up and it might quickly get out of the Hoops' reach.

One would hope that the development of players like Matt O'Riley and Nicolas Kuhn in recent years as well as the chance to play Champions League football makes Celtic an attractive destination for McAtee. Otherwise, the Hoops might struggle getting a deal done.
