Will Celtic try to sign a striker this summer? That has been a question doing the rounds in recent months following the impressive form of Daizen Maeda, who has scored 33 goals, and the solid backup performances of Adam Idah, who has found the back of the net 17 times in 2097 minutes of action. That is a formidable duo to say the very least.
As a result, many have suggested that Celtic should focus on strengthening other positions and stick with their options at striker. And that stance might grow stronger after it was confirmed that Jota is set to be out for six to nine months with his injury, raising the need to sign another winger.
Despite this, Celtic continue to be linked with a forward. And it is someone who appears to have been on their radar for a long, long time.
As reported by Foot Mercato, Celtic and Eintracht Frankfurt are in Mathias Kvistgaarden. It's worth noting that Brondby are hoping for a €13 million transfer fee to let go of their striker.
Celtic want to sign €13 million striker this summer
Celtic have been linked with Kvistgaarden for the last two seasons now. There have even been suggestions that the club have tried to sign him on multiple occasions but failed.
Over that period of time, Kvistgaarden has grown as a player. This has been his best goalscoring season without a doubt as he has scored 22 times alongside 5 assists.
The Celtic scouting department deserves credit for having recognised Kvistgaarden's talent early on but unfortunately, the club were not able to sign him. And on the back of his recent performances, both interest and his transfer valuation have significantly increased.
It remains to be seen if Celtic will make a move of that magnitude despite having Maeda and Idah. That being said, one cannot overlook the fact that the Japanese forward has been linked with an exit this summer as well and appears to be drawing the interest of teams like Liverpool and Arsenal, to name a few.
