Celtic have a lot of work left to do before the summer transfer window closes. There are a number of positions where the Hoops still seem light on options and one can only wonder why they have not made the required additions before their Champions League qualifier play-off tie against Kairat Almaty.
While the Hoops are favourites for that game, it would be a major mistake to consider the result a foregone conclusion. It is far from that.
One area of weakness for Celtic heading into that tie is their wing. Nicolas Kuhn left the club last month, while it has been known for a while that Jota will miss the rest of the year through injury. Yet, somehow, that was not enough to convince the Hoops to go out and sign a winger before a game of this magnitude.
It does look like Celtic are still interested in signing a winger though, which at least, is a positive. As reported by Football Insider, Pete O'Rourke said:
"Celtic are pursuing a deal for Jakob Breum from Go Ahead Eagles.
“He has been the top target for them this summer and they’ve had several bids turned down for him.
“So if they can’t agree a deal for him, they could return for Balikwisha.
“Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in a winger, it’s been a key position for him this summer, so he’ll be hopeful they can get a deal over the line."
Celtic's top target named before summer transfer window ends
So, it looks like Breum is Celtic's top target for that spot on the flank. It makes sense, considering they have made multiple failed bids to sign him, but were not able to match what Go Ahead Eagles are believed to be looking for.
Let's see what the future holds. Breum has been a standout performer in the Eredivisie but some question marks have been raised about whether he has the physicality required to play in a league like the Scottish Premiership.
Of course, he is not the only winger Celtic have been linked with in recent times. Another name that falls under that category is Michel-Ange Balikwisha, who has been on the Hoops' radar going back to the previous summer transfer window.
