Celtic are heading into arguably their most important game of the season as they are set to take on Kairat Almaty in the UEFA Champions League qualifier play-off. In the past, we have seen the Hoops stumble in games like these. One can only hope that we do not see a repeat of that. They should aim for a win, and nothing less, in the first leg at Parkhead before embarking on a long trip to Kazakhstan for the return leg.
Celtic have won their three games so far this season. Against St Mirren and Falkirk at home, and Aberdeen away at Pittodrie Stadium.
A lot has been made about their defence in recent weeks but so far, we have seen them concede just once this season. On the other hand, the same cannot be said about the Hoops' quality going forward right now.
Adam Idah, Shin Yamada and Johnny Kenny have all been given chances during these three games. But so far, none of them have found the back of the net. It would be safe to say the Celtic's strikers need to be a lot more efficient and prolific, if they are to get past Kairat Almaty and make it to the Champions League.
Celtic's biggest problem very clear before Kairat Almaty tie
Celtic spent around £9.5 million to sign Idah from Norwich City last summer. But unfortunately, the Irishman has not met expectations so far. Yes, he did score 20 goals last season but whenever he has been given the chance to lead the line and establish himself as the club's first-choice number 9, he has fallen short.
On the other hand, Kenny was expected to leave this summer, either on loan or permanently. But the lack of options means that he has stayed on so far. Let's see if that changed.
And finally, Yamada has been signed this summer. The move raised some eyebrows from the beginning as he had managed to score just two goals in Japan in the 2025 season before his move to Celtic. Not the most prolific output by any stretch of the imagination.
