Celtic's hopes of landing a Champions League goalscorer may have been dealt a blow. The Bhoys are on the lookout for a new striker as they look to finally increase their summer transfer activity.
It has been a tough summer for Bhoys fans so far, who have seen just one new signing procured despite the promise of a very different recruitment drive compared to the last off-season.
But so far it has been much the same, and it looks as though a late scramble is playing out at Parkhead as the club look to land Martin O'Neill a handful of new signings before the season starts a week on Monday.
One of the positions Celtic need to take care of is the striker position, which has a gap following the failure to re-sign Kelechi Iheanacho. The Hoops currently have new signing Camilo Duran, along with Callum Osmand and Johnny Kenny, though the latter is likely to depart.
Another striker is likely to be signed, and Bodo/Glimt frontman Kasper Hogh appears to be the leading candidate.
Hogh high on Celtic's wishlist, but he won't come cheap
Hogh has been in fine form for Bodo/Glimt, scoring seven and assisting as many in 12 league appearances so far, with the league about to restart after the World Cup. Like Celtic's summer signing Duran, he also scored five Champions League goals last season, and Bodo/Glimt are hoping to qualify again this summer.
It was reported on Thursday that Celtic are expected to make a move for Hogh at some stage, but there is a fresh report from Radio Sporten, who claim Bodo/Glimt are in no rush to sell their star striker, who is a Denmark international, and they will ask for big money to sell this summer.
It's claimed the price could be 'more than Celtic are willing to pay', which could be a blow for the Bhoys. Keeping in mind Transfermarkt value Hogh at around £10.2million, it's not out of the question that the striker's asking price could be upwards of £15million given his current form.
Bodo/Glimt are currently in the third round of the Champions League qualifiers, and they would have a playoff round still to come, so they certainly won't want to sell Hogh now. The money for qualifying for the Champions League alone would make it worth keeping Hogh, at least until the end of the window.
A big offer could change things, but it's unclear how much Celtic are willing to pay having already paid £5.5million for Duran.
