Celtic's main striker target is becoming clearer as they look to ramp up their summer business over the next week or so. The Bhoys are still stuck on just one new signing so far this summer, but Martin O'Neill wants many more, and the new season is now just over a week away.
Finally, it looks as though Celtic are now pressing ahead with their summer business, and we could see at least a couple of deals done before that opening game with Dundee a week from Monday.
O'Neill has a number of areas he needs to address this summer, and one of them is the striker position, with Kelechi Iheanacho having refused a deal. O'Neill said he wanted to bring the forward back, but Celtic's offer appeared insulting, heavily reliant upon bonuses to protect themselves against injury, while Bursaspor have confirmed they will be paying the forward a much more respectable £23,000-per-week.
Failure to add Iheanacho leaves the front line with new signing Camilo Duran and Callum Osmand, while Johnny Kenny is there but is likely to depart, and Daizen Maeda is no longer a forward option as he prepares to join Ipswich Town.
Celtic now eyeing Danish frontman
It was reported earlier this week that Bodo/Glimt forward Kasper Hogh had emerged as a target as Celtic look to address their front line. The forward has been in fine form this season, which is ongoing and about to restart, scoring seven and assisting seven in just 12 games.
That impressive record has Celtic sniffing around, and it's worth keeping in mind the forward also scored five and assisted three during an impressive Champions League campaign for the Norwegian club last season.
Following links between Celtic and Hogh, one Hoops fan quizzed Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph on X, to which he replied: "He's a target, yes. Expecting Celtic to make a move at some point."
That update suggests no approach has been made yet, but Celtic could make an approach soon, which is no surprise given their obvious need up top. Hogh is already valued at £10.2million by Transfermarkt, and with his form this season, Celtic are likely going to have to pay a significant fee to land him.
Hogh is still only 25 years of age, and he is under contract with Bodo/Glimt until 2029. The Norwegian side are hoping to qualify for the Champions League again this season, currently in the third qualifying round.
