When the speculation about Greg Taylor leaving Celtic for the Rangers in the summer first cropped up, it felt completely far-fetched. But since then, there has been plenty of discussion regarding the matter in the media. Particularly by those who have ties with the Ibrox club. And now, one has to wonder whether there is an actual possibility that the Scottish international could make the switch from one side of Glasgow to another.
Taylor has spent the last six seasons playing for Celtic, most of it as a starter. But with Kieran Tierney set to arrive in the summer, it is understandable why he might want to leave. No football would want to be a backup option in their prime.
That being said, what would not be understandable to the majority of Celtic fans is the idea of him potentially joining the Rangers in the summer. That feels like something that the left-back should not entertain if he values the legacy he has created at Parkhead.
Yet, Ally McCoist appears to believe that it would not be that big of a deal. As reported by the Daily Record, he told talkSPORT:
"In this day and age, it's probably not as big a deal as it was years and years ago. But I definitely think he could play in the team."
Celtic told reason Greg Taylor would join Rangers
When asked if Taylor would seriously consider tarnishing his Celtic legacy by joining Rangers, McCoist added:
"I don't see any reason why not."
McCoist then went on to talk a bit further about why such a move would not be that big of a deal in today's day and age:
"You talk about Elvis, Kenny Miller, Alfie Conn... so I don't think it's such a big deal as years gone by."
To be honest, it would be a very big deal, if any player went directly from Celtic to the Rangers, or vice versa. Especially someone like Taylor, who has been a regular starter for the Hoops for so many years and has played a starring role in so many trophy-laden seasons.
He was being linked with a move to Dinamo Zagreb. But now, that is up in the air, after the club's manager was shown the exit door recently. Could that open up the door for a move to Ibrox for the Scottish international? Time shall tell. We will find out soon.
