This summer, it looks like Celtic have been making plenty of failed bids. Earlier, it had been claimed that they made three offers for Jakob Breum of Go Ahead Eagles, all of which were turned down. And yesterday, news emerged that the Scottish champions had seen a bid rejected for Cagliari centre-back, Adam Obert.
Obert is 22 years of age and came through the youth ranks at Sampdoria. He has played his senior-level football at Cagliari though, and has already made 86 appearances for the Italian Serie A side.
Celtic brought in a centre-back recently from Manchester City, with Jahmai Simpson-Pusey arriving on loan. But it might not be a bad idea to bring in another one before the summer transfer window closes and someone like Obert could be a good addition to Brendan Rodgers' squad.
But it looks like the Hoops will need to significantly raise their offer if they want to sign the Slovakian international. As reported by Calcio Casteddu, the proposed figures are currently far from the Rossoblu's asking price. It was around €3.5 million compared to the €6-7 million Cagliari are looking for.
Celtic told how much they need to pay for Adam Obert after failed bid
Obert is just 22 years of age, with Serie A experience and multiple national team appearances for Slovakia. So, it is not hard to understand why Cagliari might be hoping for a much bigger fee. It makes sense.
So far this summer, Celtic have spent only £3 million on transfer fees. That is a remarkably low figure. And even the Rangers are showing a lot more ambition in this window. There is no hiding from that fact any longer. The Hoops need to move, and quickly at that.
Let's see what the future holds for Obert. Will Celtic end up making another offer for him? We shall find out very soon, that's for sure.
