Celtic have been active this winter but it has seen players leaving the club rather than arriving. Stephen Welsh has already departed while Odin Thiago Holm is believed to be on the verge of completing a loan exit as well. Hopefully, we will see some fresh faces arrive before the end of the ongoing window.
One area where Celtic are believed to be looking to strengthen is on the wings. That is because the expectation is for Luis Palma to leave after barely getting any playing time in the first half of the campaign.
A 21-year-old winger appears to be on the radar of Celtic as a potential replacement for Palma. But they will have to shell out a significant transfer fee if they want to sign him.
As reported by Anthony Joseph, Sarpsborg are understood to be looking for a deal worth £7 million for Sondre Ørjasæter. Talks are ongoing between Celtic and the Norwegian club. Fiorentina, Parma and Nice are also interested in him.
Celtic told to pay £7m transfer fee for 21-year-old winger
Considering the level of the other teams that are interested in Ørjasæter, it is quite clear that he is very highly rated. Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic are ready to make that kind of an investment on a winger who might not even start.
Both Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda have been in superb form for Celtic this season, contributing with both goals and assists. It is hard to imagine that a 21-year-old winger will just arrive and immediately replace one of those two in the starting XI.
A £7 million transfer fee would make Ørjasæter one of the most expensive signings in Celtic history though. So, let's see how things play out in this saga. It is safe to say that the club will have alternative targets as well.
