Timing is everything in football. And this summer might prove to be the perfect time to bring back a familiar face to Celtic. Of course, the club are no stranger to reunions. Kieran Tierney and Ross Doohan are both reported to have signed pre-contract agreements and will be making their returns to Parkhead soon.
It is not just on the pitch that Celtic will need to add this summer though. There is a void behind the scenes as well as the club's pathways manager Darren O'Dea is believed to be on his way to Swansea City.
Interestingly, a Brentford exit has taken place at around the same time. And it is someone who could be perfect for that vacant spot at Celtic.
As reported by Brentford's official website, Head of Individual Player Development Steven Pressley has left the club. He spent the last four years there, having joined the club in May 2021.
Celtic return could be on as Brentford announce exit
Pressley is believed to have played a key role in the development of several players over his four years at Brentford. Names like Yehor Yarmoliuk, Ryan Trevitt, Ji-soo Kim and Paris Maghoma have been promoted from the B team to the senior side during his time with the Bees.
It is noteworthy that this sounds like a very similar role to the one that O'Dea has at Celtic. So, Pressley could be the perfect replacement for him. In fact, considering the timing, one cannot help but wonder if a return is being worked on behind the scenes.
Pressley is one of a few players to have represented both Rangers and Celtic. He made his breakthrough with the Ibrox club and joined the Hoops in the twilight of his career. In fact, he found most of his individual success while playing for Hearts and made 32 appearances for the Scotland national team too.
