Well, it is no secret that Celtic need to get some signings done before this summer transfer window closes. Brendan Rodgers' side have looked far from convincing in the first few games of the season, although they have won both of them, taking a four-point lead over the Rangers as a result after just two matchdays.
The club cannot afford to look at that and think that this is a squad that will continue to pick up wins consistently throughout the season. They are light on options in a number of areas, and in some positions, they need new starters.
Most Celtic fans would like to see the team sign another striker, a winger or two, a centre-back and probably a backup option to Kieran Tierney at left-back. But the Hoops have also been linked with a midfielder in recent days.
That is none other than Andy Irving. The Scottish international is expected to leave West Ham United this summer. It is believed that the Rangers are interested in him as well but it is Celtic who seem to have been backed to sign him.
Celtic tipped to complete signing of Premier League player next week
As reported by Football Insider, Paul Robinson said regarding Irving, his future at West Ham United and a potential move to Celtic:
"A move away from West Ham seems the only option if he’s going to get that.
“The way Graham Potter rotates his side and changes players, it doesn’t look like he’s going to get much game time.
“Potter wants to rejuvenate his squad, and Celtic are looking at him, so that could be one we see get done in the next week or so."
This is not the first time that Celtic have been linked with a move for Irving. He is someone who appears to have been on their radar for a long time. Now, it remains to be seen if they can get a deal over the line or not.
Irving could be a decent addition in the middle of the park for the Hoops and is a profile that they seem to be missing at the moment. It is believed that a transfer fee in the region of £3 million could be enough to convince West Ham United to part ways with him.
