It is no secret that Celtic are still short of options at striker despite the addition of Kelechi Iheanacho as a free agent. Other than the Nigerian international, who scored a winner on his debut, the other two out-and-out options available to Brendan Rodgers are Shin Yamada and Johnny Kenny. If Michel-Ange Balikwisha continues to struggle, it is very likely that Daizen Maeda will shift back to the wing.
Then there are the long-term question marks over the future of Maeda, who has already admitted that he was keen on an exit in the summer. And it would be wise for Celtic to go out and sign a striker in the summer transfer window.
There are some pretty good options out there, if the club do intend to show some ambition. One of them is currently playing his football for Union SG in Belgium.
67 Hail Hail recently compiled a list of four strikers that should be on Celtic’s January 2026 transfer window wishlist. Promise David is one name on there.
Celtic tipped to sign phenomenal Canadian striker in January
David has proven to be a phenomenal goalscorer, pretty much wherever he has been so far. He scored 24 goals for Union SG last season. Before that, he had managed 30 goals in 44 games for Nomme Kalju. He has also scored twice in five appearances for the Canadian national team.
At 24 years of age, he is also expected to get better and this might be the right time for him to take the next step. A club like Celtic would represent that and he could be a regular starter for the Hoops.
Of course, this is nothing but a mere suggestion at this point, albeit a pretty good one. It remains to be seen if Celtic will go out and make a move for another striker or not in January. It is very possible that they might decide to stick with their options until next summer, when a new manager is expected to arrive with Rodgers' contract running out.
