Wilfried Nancy has come in as the new Celtic manager and clearly has his own ideas about how he wants the team to play, which is different from what had worked so well during Martin O'Neill's brief but successful interim spell. As a result, it is now up to the club to provide him the right players in order to make things work, or accept that they have made the wrong appointment altogether.
Nancy has lost his first two games in charge. As a result, this Sunday's Scottish League Cup final could already be a make-or-break contest for the manager.
That might sound dramatic for someone who will take charge of his third game as Celtic manager. But once fans give up on you in Glasgow, there is only one possible outcome. Just ask the decision makers at Ibrox, who have to sack managers pretty much every season and recently showed Russell Martin the exit door after just 123 days.
If things are to work for Nancy, he needs to be backed in the winter window based on the players he needs. That includes wing-backs, as he seems keen to play a three at the back formation.
Celtic tipped to sign free agent Spain international to solve problem
67 Hail Hail recently put out a list of wing-back options that could immediately improve Nancy’s new-look Celtic. Sergio Reguilon's name was on that listicle.
Reguilon is without a club at the moment, having left Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. He is still just 28 years of age though and has the pedigree to shine at a club like Celtic.
Over the years, Reguilon has played for clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid. He has also represented Spain at the international level. How many other players can say that?
Clearly, Reguilon has quality. It just has not worked out for him in recent years. Celtic would present him with a fresh start at a time when there does not seem to be a lot of interest in his signature even though he is a free agent.
