If the recent transfer speculation surrounding the Hoops is anything to go by, it looks like Celtic are aiming to strengthen in the middle of the park. It is not hard to understand why that might be the case. Some of their recent performances have not been up to the mark and Brendan Rodgers' side have struggled to control games in midfield.
So, despite having plenty of options in the middle of the park, do not be surprised if Celtic end up signing a midfielder in the near future. They have been linked with plenty in recent times.
High-profile names like Christian Eriksen, Carney Chukwuemeka, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and a few others have been linked with Celtic in recent weeks and months. But could they end up signing an in-form midfielder from the Championship instead?
The player we are talking about is Burnley captain, Josh Brownhill. He is in the form of his life right now but his current deal is believed to be running out in the summer. And Celtic are one of the clubs who have been linked with him in recent times.
Celtic tipped to sign in-form Burnley captain
Brownhill has been backed to be interested in joining a club like Celtic. As reported by Football Insider, Paul Robinson said:
"Celtic could be a great option for him, [the] offer of Champions League football again next year.
“Obviously Champions League football for Josh Brownhill next year, it could be a little bit of a pull in the right direction, especially if Brendan Rodgers is still in charge."
Brownhill has already scored 9 goals from midfield in the Championship so far this season. So, he is someone who knows his way to the back of the net.
That is something that Celtic could do with right now. Matt O'Riley left in the summer and no midfielder at the club right now seems to be capable of putting up the numbers that the Dane was last season in terms of goals and assists. Also, Brownhill is the Burnley captain and the Hoops could do with a bit more experience and leadership.
