Are Celtic looking to sign a striker this summer? Common sense suggests that they should be. Kyogo Furuhashi left in the winter and was not replaced. Now, the departure of Nicolas Kuhn combined with the long-term injury of Jota means that Daizen Maeda might need to move back to the flank for the time being. Admittedly, the Hoops have brought in Callum Osmand and Shin Yamada in this window but neither of them is expected to be a starter.
Most Celtic fans would want to see the club go out and sign a proven goalscorer. And yet, they have been linked with a few of them and rarely, with wingers, midfielders, centre-backs and left-backs seemingly getting more of the attention.
Of course, the Hoops have shown that they have the ability to move in silence. The failed bid for Louis Munteanu is proof of that.
Another striker who has been loosely linked with Celtic in recent times is Richard Kone. The Ivorian scored 21 goals for Wycombe Wanderers last season. And Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has tipped him to succeed in Scotland. As reported by Football League World, he said:
"What a story this is, from where he came from. He was highly sought-after, particularly from Luton, in January after his manager Matt Bloomfield went to the Hatters.
“But, it’s no surprise to see him being linked with a decent opportunity, a move to Scotland. I feel he would thrive massively at that level, with a Celtic team that dominates games and creates chances, and from a personal point of view, I would imagine he would earn way more money than he does at Wycombe.
“So, if the opportunity arose, I could see that as a good move for him."
Celtic tipped to sign 21-goal striker by Sky Sports man
Kone is 22 years of age and is coming off a great season with Wycombe. In 52 matches, he managed to score 21 goals and provided 5 assists as well.
Of course, there will always be an element of risk involved when it comes to signing players from the League One level. That being said, there are plenty of brilliant ones out there if you can get the scouting right.
Celtic almost signed Ivan Toney when he was playing League One football. One who they did manage to sign is Matt O'Riley. It is safe to say that we all know how that one turned out and how well he did for the Hoops.
