Midfield is one area Celtic could look to strengthen this summer. They have a lot of talent in that area of the pitch. But Odin Thiago Holm did leave in the winter to join LAFC on loan for the entire year. On the other hand, there has been speculation surrounding the future of Reo Hatate, who could be one of the players to leave at the end of this campaign, having achieved pretty much everything at Parkhead.
Thus, Celtic could need to bring in a replacement. Also, one cannot overlook the fact that they never replaced Matt O'Riley's goals in the middle of the park.
Arne Engels was signed for a major transfer fee and he has been decent so far, still finding his feet in Scotland. He has not been great when it comes to the final third of the pitch though with most of the Belgian international's goals coming from the penalty spot.
Celtic need a goalscoring midfielder. And there are few better in that regard than Josh Brownhill. He has been in the form of his life this season and recently scored a brace against Sheffield United in a 2-1 win to secure Burnley's place in the Premier League next season.
Celtic tipped to sign 16-goal English midfielder
In an article from The Scotsman, Brownhill was suggested as a potential free agent option for Celtic. Despite his recent heroics for Burnley, the Englishman has not signed a contract extension yet.
Celtic were linked with the midfielder in the winter as well. And with his contract running out at the end of the season, it is not hard to imagine why the Hoops might be interested in signing Brownhill.
Let's see what the future holds for Brownhill. With Brunley securing their place in the Premier League, there is a possibility that he could end up opting to extend his stay there.
