Celtic have been tipped to sign the €14 million-rated midfielder for nothing after he recently announced his free agency.

Celtic have been pretty reluctant to spend big on transfer fees this summer. Is this because of the underwhelming contributions from Adam Idah and Arne Engels after big-money moves to Parkhead? We do not know. But the highest fee they have shelled out so far in this window is the £1.5 million which was required to bring in Benjamin Nygren, who looks like a class addition by the way.

Of course, if Celtic want to get bargain transfers done, there is no better place to look at than the free agent market. And a phenomenal option might be available there right now.

For a little while, Celtic have been linked with a move for Josh Brownhill, a standout in the English Championship last season. The midfielder scored 18 goals and provided 6 assists. A brilliant return from the middle of the park.

He is rated at around a €14 million transfer valuation but is available as a free agent this summer. Brownhill recently announced that he was leaving Burnley in this window, with his contract with the English club running out.

Celtic have been backed to sign Brownhill and told that it would be a terrific piece of business for them. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Mark Guidi said on Go Radio:

"If you can get a player like Josh Brownhill on a free transfer, albeit he will command a big salary. At 29, he fits the identity that Brendan Rodgers is looking for. He is looking for some ready-made quality players, and Brownhill absolutely ticks that box.

“So, if Celtic can get that over the line, then I think it will be a terrific piece of business."

It is hard to disagree with that. Brownhill could be a brilliant addition to this Celtic team. He is more than proven, was fantastic in the Championship last season and has more than 100 Premier League appearances under his belt as well.

Players like him do not readily become available as free agents. At least those Celtic have a realistic chances of signing.

Of course, there is not going to be a lack of interest in Brownhill's signature. In fact, Premier League clubs might be having a look at him. So, Celtic need to move quickly if they want to get a deal done, rather than letting this drag on.
