With the Rangers drawing their opening game of the Scottish Premiership season, 1-1 against Motherwell, things have been made easier for Celtic going into their Flag Day contest against St Mirren. Sooner or later, the Hoops will need to pick up pace in the transfer market as well though. There are a lot of holes in this squad that need to be fixed as soon as possible.

When it comes to holes in this Celtic squad, most fans immediately think about a striker or on the wing. But defensive midfield is another position that needs to be addressed.

Earlier in the summer, it had looked like the Hoops were intent on doing that. Every day, they were being linked with a different defensive midfielder. But those rumours have somewhat gone quiet in recent weeks, or certainly a lot quieter in comparison.

Stefan Bajcetic of Liverpool is someone who has been linked with Celtic in recent days though. And they have been backed to complete a deal for him soon. As reported by Football Insider, former England international Paul Robinson said:

"He’s coming towards the end of his contract at Liverpool and as an academy player a permanent move would all be profit.

“With Arne Slot allowing him to go out on loan like he did last year, this is a deal that could be done.

“Whether it’s Celtic or somewhere else, Brendan Rodgers is keen on the player, it’s a deal that’s more than achievable, and they can get a deal done in the next couple of days."

Someone as talented as Bajcetic could certainly be a very good addition to this Celtic team. He has played 22 times for Liverpool already while also spending time out on loan at clubs like RB Salzburg and Las Palmas.

The talent is quite clearly there. He just needs to end up at a club where he will get consistent chances. Liverpool is not expected to be that.

Liverpool have had a tough time bringing through youngsters into the first-team on a consistent basis in recent years, as they consistently look to challenge for trophies. That is a problem that Celtic are too familir with but on this occasion, it could help them land a player.
