One reported Celtic target now looks much more likely to go elsewhere amid ongoing talks. The Bhoys are hoping to ramp up their summer business over the next couple of weeks, and the £11million signing of Kasper Hogh is going to be the start of that.
But the Bhoys have many more areas to address this summer, and they are behind the 8-ball, so to speak, having had such a disappointing window up to now. Time is of the essence, both with the season starting next week and with the end of the transfer window just a few weeks away
One position of need is the goalkeeper position following the retirement of Kasper Schmeichel, and Las Palmas stopper Dinko Horkas, but among the few keepers who have been linked with a Parkhead switch this summer is Radek Vitek.
Vitek looking likely to bag EFL move
Vitek has been pretty open in saying he wants to leave Manchester United in search of regular football this summer. The goalkeeper spent last season on loan at Bristol City and impressed, but that was never going to be rewarded with a starting spot at Old Trafford.
A move to Celtic has been mooted, but a £15million asking price has been mentioned, and Celtic are not going to spend anywhere near that amount on a keeper this summer. The Bhoys are trying to get discount on a £6million deal for Horkas, so paying more than double that is out of the question.
In the meantime, EFL Championship side Middlesbrough are said to be working on a deal, with Teesside Live claiming Boro are in exploratory talks over a potential deal. A number of other Championship clubs are also said to be circling at this stage.
Meanwhile, Celtic remain in need of a starting keeper, as Martin O'Neill has admitted this summer, albeit Viljami Sinisalo has already proven he can step in and be a reliable stopgap. But in the case of Vitek, who can blame Celtic for not engaging in such an expensive deal for a still relatively unproven keeper.
