Celtic might end up being much busier this January than one would expect. They are being linked with high-profile names like Kieran Tierney and Jota as both former players are expected to be on the move soon. On the other hand, there are quite a few who could head for the Parkhead exit door as well.
In most such cases, that is because such players are not performing or not getting opportunities. But in one special case, one of the club's most in-form defenders could be set to leave.
The player we are talking about is Alexandro Bernabei. He was the best left-back in the Brazilian league during his time on loan at SC Internacional.
Despite that, it looks like Bernabei is not likely to get another chance at Celtic. Instead, a return to SC Internacional could be on the cards. As reported by the Daily Record, the Brazilian club's president Alessandro Barcellos said regarding the situation:
"The deal hasn't progressed yet, but we are constantly making contact with Celtic. We have to respect the other club’s time and all of this is part of it.
"It’s not an easy negotiation when you factor in the valuation, the player’s package and the interests of the Scottish club. Negotiations are in full swing and we are working towards that."
Celtic in talks over Ange Postecoglou signing's exit
Celtic do need to strengthen at left-back right now. Greg Taylor has been their starter there for quite some time now but most fans seem to believe that that is an area where the Hoops can improve.
Unfortunately, Bernabei did not make much of an impression while he was in Glasgow and faced problems off the field as well. As a result, it is very possible that the club view this as the perfect opportunity to part ways rather than give him another chance and risk seeing his transfer value fall once again.
Of course, it is also worth mentioning that Alex Valle is on loan at Celtic right now from FC Barcelona. But it is unclear what the long-term future holds for him and considering that he is behind Taylor in the pecking order, the Spaniard might not be the long-term answer.
