All the talk around Celtic in recent weeks has been regarding their next permanent manager. Wilfried Nancy has emerged as the frontrunner for the job, although he has no experience in European football. The likes of Kjetil Knutsen and Kieran McKenna are believed to be contenders as well. And it would not come as a surprise if a few fresh names cropped up over the coming days.

At the same time, one cannot forget the importance of rebuilding the squad. No matter who arrives as the next manager, he needs to be given the right players to succeed. Martin O'Neill's stint has shown that this roster might not be as bad as it had looked under the management of Brendan Rodgers. But there are still clear gaps that need to be filled.

One of them is up top at striker. But unfortunately, it looks like it is only going to get worse from here. That is because Daizen Maeda is eyeing a January exit.

Maeda has already admitted to the media that he wanted to leave in the summer but Celtic did not sanction the move. It could finally end up materialising in January, with the club seemingly more open to it now.

As reported by the Daily Record, Maeda is poised for a January exit. Sources close to the Japanese player have confirmed there is still strong interest in him and he could finally leave. On the other hand, Celtic are aware of that and their recruitment team has already started to look at possible replacements for January.

Maeda has remained a starter for Celtic. But he is not scoring at the rate that he was last season. So, if the right replacement is brought in, the club can afford to say goodbye to him this January.

Of course, finding the right replacement will not be easy. And Celtic's recruitment record will not fill anybody with confidence.
