Celtic star Sebastien Tounekti might just have grabbed himself a Champions League qualifying starting spot after his performance against Dundee United on Sunday.
The Bhoys made easy work of United, winning 4-0 to progress to the quarter-finals of the Premier Sports Cup. The home side actually hit the woodwork five times in all, but Celtic were still good value for their win, and Martin O'Neill made a couple of changes for the game.
Alex Oxlade-chamberlain, who is suspended for the next two Champions League games, came in for the now departed Arne Engels in midfield, while Colby Donavan started for Alistair Johnston, Liam Scales came in for Kieran Tierney and Sebastien Tounekti started instead of Yang Hyun-jun on the left.
Tounekti was a constant threat
Tounekti grabbed his opportunity against United on Saturday, putting in fine display down the left. Benjamin Nygren pipped him for Man of the Match in our player ratings, but he was certainly one of the best performers.
Yang looked better against Kilmarnock compared to the opening game against Dundee, but he hasn't been the constant thorn in the side of defences that Celtic need him to be.
Tounekti was on Saturday, constantly taking the ball and running at his opponents, attempting to take them on with every opportunity. The winger even produced a fine solo goal, turning his man inside-out before tucking into the near post with a clever finish.
Martin O'Neill likes his winger to be direct and drive his side up the pitch, and Yang is not showing an ability to do that just yet, while new boy Hassan is likely to play on the right, but in the short time we saw him on Sunday, he doesn't look sharp enough to start just yet.
Tounekti was given his chance and he took it. He should be rewarded with a start against LASK, and going forward until a time comes when his performances dip and Yang's improve.
