The summer transfer window is now just around the corner and things are already picking up pace for Celtic. The club have already announced that Scott Bain will be leaving, bringing an end to his seven-plus-year run with the Hoops. On the other hand, reliable sources have confirmed that Daniel Cummings will be joining West Ham United. It remains to be seen how many more exits take place over the coming days, weeks and months.
Plenty of additions are set to be made as well. And it looks like one of them is not far away at all following an official announcement.
Bain leaving the club has left a void that needs to be filled in the squad. And it has been suggested that Ross Doohan will be the man to take up his role. That just got one step closer.
Aberdeen released a statement at the end of the season. In it, they confirmed that Doohan is one of the players who will leave this summer with their contract expiring.
Celtic close in on signing after official announcement made
Doohan came through the youth ranks at Celtic Park. But he was never able to establish himself in the first-team picture and ended up leaving in 2022.
Since then, he has had spells at Tranmere Rovers, Forest Green Rovers and then Aberdeen. Now, the 27-year-old finds himself out of contract once again. And it looks like a return to Celtic Park is on the cards for him.
Of course, if Doohan does return, he cannot expect to get much, if any, playing time. Bain was barely in the picture himself and firmly behind both Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo in the pecking order at Parkhead. There have been some suggestions though that the 27-year-old has already signed a pre-contract agreement.
