A number of former Celtic players have moved into management following the end of their playing careers. Scott Brown is currently the manager of Ayr United in the Championship. Only recently, Neil Lennon signed a two-year deal at Dunfermline Athletic. And Shaun Maloney is believed to be in the running for the Dundee FC job.

That is not the end of that list though. Not by a country mile. In fact, another former Celtic player has now managed to land a job in the Championship and could come up against Brown and Lennon next season.

Patrick Thistle have announced the appointment of Mark Wilson as the club's new head coach. He had become their interim manager alongside Brian Graham back in February and has now been handed the job on a permanent basis.

In the past, he has managed Airdrieonians and Brechin City. Also, he had first joined Partick Thistle as the manager of their U18 side in 2023.

Wilson spent more than six seasons playing for Celtic. He first joined the club in 2006 from Dundee United, whose youth ranks he came through. And he would leave in 2012, joining Bristol City. He captained the Hoops in his last match.

Over that period of time, he made more than 100 appearances for Celtic. He also won six trophies, including four league titles.

Wilson did not do much of note after leaving Celtic. His time at Bristol City was not a success. After that, he would return to Dundee United before ending his career at Dumbarton.

Wilson did a decent enough job as caretaker manager of Partick Thistle to be handed the job on a permanent basis. Now, it remains to be seen how his run goes there. They finished 4th in the Championship this season and will be looking to make a promotion push this time.
