There have been plenty of exits and arrivals at Celtic Park this summer. It had started brilliantly but over the last few days, we have seen some key players depart, which has meant that the squad has been weakened and there is a need to bring in reinforcements. One of the areas where the Hoops need to improve is their defence.
A lot of eyes are on the potential signing of another centre-back. That being said, the Hoops need to bring in a left-back as well as cover for Kieran Tierney, who has a long injury history.
Greg Taylor would have been perfect for that role but he has left at the end of his contract to join Greek side PAOK. On the other hand, Jeffrey Schlupp was only on loan until the end of the campaign. So, that leaves Celtic short of options in that position.
One of the players Celtic had been linked with in January was Tyrell Malacia of Manchester United. He ended up joining PSV on loan instead. But now, it looks like the opportunity has come up again for the Hoops.
Celtic can sign Man Utd defender as Fabrizio Romano drops news
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel, it is over between Malacia and Manchester United. He is out of the project and will not return to training.
Malacia spent the second half of last season on loan at PSV but was not particularly impressive there. So, the club decided against trying to sign him on a permanent basis.
At Celtic, he will only be needed as competition for Tierney though. So, it might be a good fit for both parties at this point in time. A season-long loan deal would be worth considering as the Man Utd left-back is available right now.
