If there is one thing that we learned from the Scottish Cup final, it is that Celtic must go out and improve their squad. It is not as good as we once thought. While some of the under-par league performances can be written off as complacency, as the Premiership title race had been realistically over for months, the same cannot be said about their display at Hampden Park at the weekend.

One of the players who did not cover themselves in glory against Aberdeen was Kasper Schmeichel. He made a mess of things and scored an own goal, and then was unable to save any of the Dons' penalties while Callum McGregor and Alistair Johnston missed from the spot.

Schmeichel ended up receiving a one-year extension recently but it is very clear that he is not the long-term solution. So, if the right goalkeeper is available in the summer, Celtic should go out and sign him, rather than let the opportunity slip by because they have the Danish veteran for one more year.

If the recent speculation about Caoimhin Kelleher is close to being accurate, then signing him would be a no-brainer. Bryan King said while speaking to Villa News:

"I think Liverpool would let him go for £12million."

That would represent a club record transfer fee for Celtic. It is safe to say that it would be well worth it for a potentially world-class goalkeeper in Caoimhin Kelleher.

Kelleher has been superb for Liverpool whenever given a chance to play. Unfortunately for him, the club have Alisson Becker, arguably the best goalkeeper in the world. So, the Irishman has barely played when both are available. Also, the Premier League champions are set to welcome Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer.

Kelleher has made it no secret that he wants to leave Liverpool in search of first-team football. Celtic can offer him that as well as the chance to play in the Champions League. Of course, it is very likely that the Premier League champions will want more than £12 million for the goalkeeper.
