Celtic started the summer transfer window fast but have moved at a glacial pace in recent weeks when it comes to making additions, although players have departed left, right and centre. Hopefully, now that most of the departures have been completed, the board have a better outlook on the squad and will go about improving it.
Centre-back is one area where Celtic need to strengthen this summer. They have been linked with a few players like Etienne Youte and Justin de Haas. But it would be wise to keep an eye out on alternatives as well.
The free agent is always interesting. Of course, Celtic have been pretty active in recent times. Aaron Mooy, Kasper Schmeichel and Kieran Tierney are some high-profile names that they have brought in when they were without a club.
When it comes to the centre-back position, how about someone like Kurt Zouma? As reported by Telecomasia, agents have offered the services of the defender to Moscow's Spartak.
Celtic can sign France international centre-back for free
If Spartak can be involved in the race to sign Zouma, one would imagine that Celtic have the ability as well. The Frenchman has all the experience in the world, having played for clubs like Chelsea, Stoke City, Everton and captained West Ham United in a decade-plus career in the Premier League. He also has featured for the France national team on several occasions.
Yet, he is still just 30 years of age. Also, while Zouma has had a few injury problems over the course of his career, he has not had a serious one going back to his ACL issue in early 2016. That was what derailed his career as a starter for Chelsea.
Of course, this is merely a suggestion at this point in time but one that could make sense for Celtic. They need a centre-back but have struggled to find a reliable one since Carl Starfelt left.
They have brought in the likes of Gustaf Lagerbielke, Auston Trusty, Maik Nawrocki and more but nobody has really been able to establish themselves alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers as a starter. Liam Scales has been the closest but most fans do not believe that he is at that level to be starting regularly for Celtic.
It is safe to say that Zouma is proven and would be a definite starter for Celtic, whenever fit and available. Of course, meeting salary expectations might be an issue but considering he is available as a free agent, it might make things a lot easier in that respect for the Hoops.
