Celtic did not really solve their issues up top this summer. Instead, those might have only gotten worse. The Hoops never replaced Kyogo when he left for Rennes in January. And that has remained the case. On top of that, they sanctioned Adam Idah's move to Swansea City without bringing in a replacement, with Kasper Dolberg deciding to join Ajax instead.
Yes, Kelechi Iheanacho was signed on a one-year deal. But is he really a long-term solution for Celtic? Probably not, although we hope that we are proven wrong and he starts performing at an elite level for the Hoops. The late winner on debut, albeit from the penalty spot, was a positive start to life at Parkhead for the Nigerian international.
This January, Celtic should look out for some potential pre-contract agreements with a lot of talented players in the final year of their contracts. One of them is Josh Maja of West Bromwich Albion.
Transfermarkt have his valuation at €10 million. But Maja is yet to sign a contract extension with West Brom, with his current deal set to run out next summer.
Celtic can sign €10 million international striker for free
There is a good chance that West Brom will offer him an extension. But if they don't, or if the two parties can't agree on an extension, then it would make sense for Celtic to try and sign someone like Maja.
He is 26 years of age and should only be entering his prime years on the pitch. Also, he has a ton of experience under his belt, having played for a variety of English clubs and Bordeaux in France as well.
Last season, Maja scored 12 goals in 26 Championship appearances. He has had injury problems as well. So, any move for him would come with a fair share of risk. That can be said about any transfer though.
