It became very clear this weekend that the Rangers support wants Russell Martin to be shown the exit door. Will the win over Hibernian change that? Perhaps not. But it does give the manager some breathing room. It is in the league where the real problems lie though, with the Ibrox club nine points behind Celtic in mid-September.
To be very honest, there is a feeling of inevitability about the sacking. The same feeling that was around Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Mick Beale and Philippe Clement for weeks before they were finally shown the exit door. Expect this Martin saga to drag on for a while as well, unless he is able to turn things around completely and steady the Ibrox ship somehow.
That feels unlikely. Amid all this, Celtic fans have been told how much the Rangers will have to pay to sack Martin at this point in time.
As reported by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain, Martin is on £25,000 per week. And his severance package is around 1.5 times of his salary, which comes out to £1.95 million.

Of course, that is a significant figure, especially just to part ways with someone. That being said, if things don't improve for the Ibrox club, sooner or later, the Rangers will need to make a tough decision.
Then there is the payment that will be needed to part ways with the rest of the backroom staff as well. So, expect the Rangers give Martin every chance possible to get this thing back on track.
As for Celtic, they have their own problems. The first among them will be getting into the Scottish League Cup semi-finals. The team did build some momentum with the win over Kilmarnock and hopefully, they will build upon it.
