Things certainly got a lot more interesting. Since last night, we have been hearing about what happened at the club's meeting with the Celtic Fans Collective on Monday. And they have not been positive updates by any means. In fact, it has been suggested that the board tried to deny a lot of the issues that have been raised by the supporters in recent weeks.
Considering how things have been run at Celtic in recent years, it is not hard to believe that might have happened. But now things have taken a turn.
It looks like the club itself is presenting a very different view of things. They are painting a completely different picture of how they see the issues that have been raised.
In fact, they acknowledged the shortcomings in an official statement. As released on the club's official website, it goes on to read:
"We acknowledged that the Club is not where we want it to be at the moment, that we have not achieved all of our objectives in the summer transfer window and the Champions League, and that mistakes have been made from which we will learn. We recognise the concerns raised, share the frustrations of our supporters and valued the opportunity to hear from supporters last night."
Celtic release conflicting statement about what happened at fan meeting
This is certainly a very different approach from the one that had been presented to the fans since last night. In fact, the Celtic Fans Collective had released a statement earlier in the day as well regarding what had been talked about in the meeting. And they did not seem impressed with how the board had handled the matter. An excerpt from their statement read:
"A recurring theme, through all answers and discussions, was a lack of humility, awareness and accountability. At various points, the Club deferred to communication and perception being the causes of concern rather than structure, performance or culture. The Club also repeatedly questioned or rejected the premise of questions."
We do not need to tell you that both statements are painting very different pictures when it comes to what was discussed in the meeting. And it clearly does not help matters when it comes to the clarity around the situation.
This will only lead to further questions about the entire situation. It is safe to say that no real positive step has been taken as a result of the meeting.
