A lot had been made leading up to the meeting between the board and the Celtic Fans Collective on Monday. But coming out of it, one has to wonder what the point of it even was. Throughout the day, there have been rumours about what was said during the event. We had covered it earlier in the day in a report. And now, they have been pretty much confirmed officially.

The general theme was that the board had denied pretty much every issue that the fans had raised in recent times. And as it turns out, those rumours have turned out to be pretty accurate.

Unfortunately, it looks like there have been no steps in the positive direction coming out of this meeting. On the contrary, what is being said feel like a step backward if anything.

The Celtic Fans Collective have now released an official statement on their social media accounts. An excerpt from it goes on to read as follows:

"A recurring theme, through all answers and discussions, was a lack of humility, awareness and accountability. At various points, the Club deferred to communication and perception being the causes of concern rather than structure, performance or culture. The Club also repeatedly questioned or rejected the premise of questions."

To be honest, that does not sound like a club that is looking to make many, if any, changes to its structure. Instead, it appears that better communication with the fans is what will solve all the issues that have been raised, if they are being viewed as problems at all. One has to wonder why the meeting was arranged in the first place, if this was the stance of the board.

Of course, it is not easy to understand how clear communication would make sense of not replacing players like Kyogo, Adam Idah, Nicolas Kuhn or others. Or not strengthening the squad in time despite knowing for months that they were going to be in a Champions League qualifier. Or posting record revenue and profits while spending barely half of what was brought in through transfers this summer.

Not a lot of it makes sense if you ask us. Now, it remains to be seen how the Celtic supporters respond, now that the meeting has come and gone, with very little positive coming out of it.
