It is safe to say that Celtic need to add some quality to their squad in the upcoming January transfer window. That is easier said than done though. Most clubs do not want to part ways with players in the middle of the campaign. And of course, the Hoops like to make signings within a self-imposed price range.
One of the areas in need of strengthening is on the flank. Jota has been out injured since earlier in the year and is arguably the club's best winger. Daizen Maeda was remarkable in the previous campaign but his numbers have dipped since then. On top of that, there is a good chance that he could leave the club, whether it be this winter or in the summer.
Yang Hyun-jun has been getting chances but is clearly not good enough to be a starter. Sebastian Tounekti and Michel-Ange Balikwisha, the two wingers signed in the summer, have failed to convince. And James Forrest is no longer a starting-level player, although he can make an impact off the bench.
So, it should not come as any surprise if Celtic try to sign another winger in the winter. In fact, it looks like they are already working on a potential deal.
Celtic ready bid and lead race to sign Ivory Coast winger
As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic are considering an offer for Jocelin Ta Bi. Reports have suggested the Hoops are leading the race, with Gent also interested.
It won't be easy to get a deal done though. Celtic would have to find an agreement with his parent club and also compensate his loan club if they were to sign Ta Bi in the winter. He has a transfer valuation of around £500,000.
Ta Bi is currently on loan at Hapoel Petah Tikva from Maccabi Netanya until the end of the season. In 40 appearances for his loan side, he has scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists.
