It is no secret that Celtic fans want the club to go out and sign a free-scoring striker to add to their ranks of Adam Idah, Callum Osmand and the incoming Shin Yamada. It is unclear whether Daizen Maeda will continue to play centrally next season, considering the lack of depth on the wings following the departure of Nicolas Kuhn and the injury to Jota. Luis Palma and Yang Hyun-jun are being linked with moves away as well.
Celtic have been linked with quite a few strikers recently. Giuseppe Ambrosino of Napoli is one of them. But it appears that they have quietly made a transfer bid for someone whose name has not even cropped up in the Scottish media even once.
As reported by iAM Sport, Celtic offered €8 million for the transfer of Louis Munteanu. but the CFR owner refused the offer. They are looking for a figure around €18 million for the in-form striker.
Munteanu was one of the most in-form strikers in European football last season. He scored 25 goals across all competitions for CFR Cluj.
Celtic quietly make bid for €18m striker out of nowhere
Of course, this is the first time that most Scottish football fans will have heard Munteanu's name. But it is safe to say that the 23-year-old has the potential to be a top signing for the Hoops, if they could pull it off.
It remains to be seen if Celtic do end up returning with a second bid for the Romanian international. It is safe to say though that there is zero chance that they meet that €18 million figure that is floating in the media.
It is good to see that the club are looking far and wide for the right players. Munteanu has a great record in Romania.
