Things seem to be picking up pace at Celtic with the January transfer window opening. It is very clear that they need to strengthen in a variety of positions if there is to be any chance of Wilfried Nancy's stint being a success. Even then, it is no guarantee after we have seen the Frenchman lose five of his seven games in charge.
In typical Celtic fashion, the first signing of the winter transfer window is a loan deal from the Premier League. And it is one that will divide the opinion of the supporters.
After a few days of speculation, Celtic have announced the signing of Julian Araujo from Bournemouth. He is set to be at the club on loan until the end of the season.
The fan reaction was not exactly positive. Instead, the tone was mostly sarcastic from a fanbase that seems to have given up on this season already. That is not a position you ever want to be in, especially going into a Glasgow Derby this weekend.
Celtic make pre-Glasgow Derby announcement, fans react
One Celtic fan wrote: "On loan?! So we aren't gonna buy players this window either, awesome?! "
Another said: "It’s almost like you don’t want us to score goals."
Some are already looking towards the future as one fan said: "He’ll be great when we go to a back 4 under Martin O’Neill next week."
Well, after the toothless performance against Motherwell, the addition of a right-back is not exactly going to convince the supporters of the improvement needed to get the better of the Rangers this weekend. We have poked fun at the Ibrox club throughout the season, but the fact of the matter is that they have improved since Danny Rohl's appointment, even if slightly.
On the other hand, Celtic have been a complete horror show since Nancy was brought in. He has taken a team that won seven out of eight games during the interim charge of Martin O'Neill, and lost five out of seven. Even the victories have been unconvincing. It would not come as a surprise if the Rangers have a field day at Parkhead.
One would imagine that if Celtic lose against the Rangers this weekend, Nancy will be shown the exit door. But you never know with this board. Many fans feel they are more concerned with being proven right than with the success of the club.
