It is very clear that Celtic need to strengthen their squad in this January transfer window. All the good work of Martin O'Neill has been undone since the appointment of Wilfried Nancy as manager. The Frenchman has lost five of his seven games after taking charge and looks completely out of his depth. Still, the board seems to be keen on making this work and somehow avoid admitting that they made a complete mistake.
Well, if there is to be any hope of this appointment working out, Celtic will need to back Nancy with the right signings this January. That is no guarantee of success, but it will at least give them a better chance.
Right now, they do not have the right personnel to implement Nancy's style of football, if such a group of players even exists. Certain areas need to be strengthened. One of them is full-back. And a signing is on the verge of being made there.
As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic have agreed a loan deal for Bournemouth right-back Julian Araujo. He is in Glasgow and awaiting a medical.
'Awaiting a medical' - Sky Sports confirm first Celtic signing of January
There is a problem with the international loanee limit for the Cherries. The report states that Bournemouth are potentially recalling Dominic Sadi from his loan at Novi Pazar. That will free up a space for Araujo’s move to Celtic.
Araujo is someone who was on the books at Barcelona not too long ago. He did not make a senior appearance for the club though, spending time out on loan at Las Palmas before being signed by Bournemouth.
It has not worked out for him at Bournemouth. He has made just one appearance this season. So, this is a bit of a risky move if you are Celtic.
