Celtic are reportedly keeping an eye on Falkirk striker Barney Stewart, who they see as an ideal option to bolster their attack. Just 15 months into his senior career, with the player only having gone professional at the age of 20, he is already impressing, and the Hoops have taken notice.

Stewart started his season on loan to Neil Lennon's Dunfermline, who the Celts will face in the final of the Scottish Cup. He netted eight goals in 12 games for the Pars, and that convinced John McGlynn to recall him in January.

Since returning, he has netted 10 goals in 20 appearances, continuing his good record for the season and taking his total up to 18 goals across both his clubs. An impressive return for a young player.

It isn't just on a domestic level that Stewart is thriving because he is under consideration for a Scotland call-up. He has already featured for the under-21s, so it isn't out of the realm of possibility.

So, Celtic could have a gem on their hands, and they could get him for under £1 million. His transfer value is estimated at £500,000, and although Falkirk may demand more because we are a fellow Premiership side, doubling that fee seems unlikely. That is a fee that the Hoops can afford, so it seems like a no-brainer for a promising young player.

Stewart could help Celtic's striker woes

Bringing Stewart in could help Celtic up front. Throughout this season, there has been a goalscoring problem, with no one really hitting the ground running. The Hoops will look to bring in even more players to solve that problem in the summer, but with his quality and the price taken into consideration, Stewart should be seriously considered.

The Parkhead side isn't the only club interested in his services, with him attracting suitors from both Scotland and England. That's no surprise considering he is Falkirk's top goalscorer, so if we really want him, we may need to act quickly.

Whoever is brought in, they'll need to settle in quickly. There will hopefully be a lot of players through the door, and Celtic fans can't endure another season of torture. This campaign has been very difficult, but it's now coming to a close.

Stewart is someone who knows the league, knows his opponents, and is a proven goalscorer. In such a priority position, with not a lot of other options, there is not much to lose.
