It is safe to say that Celtic need to add quality to their squad right now, not lose it. That has very much been the view of Brendan Rodgers as well in recent weeks. And yet, with a few weeks left in the transfer window, players continue to be linked with moves away from Parkhead. In some cases, it makes sense as well.
Celtic have not made any bid-money additions this summer. They have spent a total of around £3 million on transfer fees. More ambition needs to be shown, that is very clear.
Admittedly, Celtic's record when it comes to making big-money signings under the management of Brendan Rodgers has not been great. Nowhere near.
A lot has been made about the struggles of Adam Idah and Arne Engels. But Auston Trusty, another big-money addition from the previous summer transfer window, finds himself on pretty much the same boat. Liam Scales is ahead of him in the pecking order. And now, the American is being linked with a potential exit as well.
Key Celtic player tipped for summer exit out of nowhere
As reported by the Daily Record, there is big European and English interest in Trusty. Clubs are watching his situation closely.
Trusty considering an exit would not be out of the question. He is already out of the starting XI. And with Jahmai Simpson-Pusey arriving on loan from Manchester City, one has to wonder where that leaves the American in the pecking order in what is a World Cup season.
That being said, it is hard to imagine that Celtic would be open to the idea of Trusty leaving at this point in time unless they are able to bring in a replacement for him first. Let's see how things turn out over the coming weeks and months.
