Celtic have already announced their first exit of the January transfer window as Stephen Welsh has completed a loan move to KV Mechelen. The centre-back, who graduated from the club's academy, was not getting opportunities at Parkhead. So, making the move to Belgium was the right step for him and hopefully, he will get consistent game time moving forward.
Of course, Welsh is not the only player to have struggled for playing time at Celtic Park. Another name that comes to mind immediately is that of Luis Palma.
Signed in the summer of 2023, Palma was originally viewed as the replacement for Jota and he started his time at Celtic brilliantly as well. But his early form would fade and the Honduran international soon lost his place in the starting XI and has never won it back.
It is very clear that Palma is not a major part of Brendan Rodgers' plans right now. So, leaving Celtic is the right option for him as well and it looks like a move to Spain is getting closer.
Celtic player reaches agreement to join La Liga club
As reported by Estadio Deportivo, Rayo Vallecano have already reached an agreement with Palma and would only need to close the deal with Celtic. The idea is a loan with an option to sign him permanently for €2.5 million.
Of course, that is lower than the figure Celtic had shelled out to sign Palma from Aris FC. And considering he proved himself at the Champions League level last season, it has to be disappointing.
But then, when you look at the little football that Palma has played in recent times, it might be difficult to bring in significant transfer offers for him at this point in time. Let's see if a move to Rayo Vallecano does end up materialising.
