Despite their 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Rangers merely a week ago, Celtic find themselves in a pretty strong position when it comes to the Premiership. Also, the Scottish League Cup is already in the bag. So, it would be understandable if the Hoops did not make too many moves this winter. Yet, rumours continue to surround the club as it looks like there could be plenty of activity at Parkhead, both in terms of incomings and outgoings, over the next few weeks.

Of course, there are areas where Celtic need to strengthen, as was evident from their underwhelming performance at Ibrox, as they were second-best in every department against the Rangers on the day. On the other hand, there are quite a few players who would be helped if they departed Parkhead, as they are not getting enough opportunities at the moment and things are unlikely to change.

The first of those exits has already been officially announced. As reported by Celtic's official website, Stephen Welsh has joined Belgian Pro League club, KV Mechelen on loan until the end of this season.

The news will not come as a surprise to anybody. Welsh was expected to join the Belgian club for a few days now and the move is finally official.

Welsh has been highly regarded at Celtic for many years now. But that has never really converted into consistent chances at the senior level.

He was always on the fringes of the first-team under the management of Ange Postecoglou. That has continued since the return of Brendan Rodgers. So, an exit was the right step for everyone.

We can only wish Welsh the best at KV Mechelen. Hopefully, he has a successful loan spell in Belgium and then we shall see what the long-term future holds for the centre-back.
