As the dust settles on Celtic's tie against Bayern Munich, it is now time to focus on the future. The next step for the club has to be improving the squad further so that they can continue to compete against the top teams in Europe and this does not end up being a one-off experience. On the other hand, there are also those who could be leaving soon.

Celtic have quite a few players out on loan right now. One of them is Gustaf Lagebielke, the Swedish centre-back who was signed in the summer of 2023.

Lagerbielke was brought in from IF Elfsborg but it looked like a mistake from the get-go. That is not to say that he is a bad player. It is just that the Swede's qualities never seemed to fit the style of football that Brendan Rodgers wanted his team to play.

Now, Lagerbielke is on loan at FC Twente and he is doing brilliantly there. So much so that it looks like he wants to stay at the club on a permanent basis if the opportunity presents itself.

Celtic player hints he wants to join Dutch club permanently

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Lagerbielke said:

"I don't hear much from Celtic, they probably have other things on their minds.

"Me too. I'm concentrating on Twente

"I'll wait and see. Everything is still open. In football, it's not always the player himself who can make decisions.

"But I'm happy here and the club is great for me. I enjoy playing here, the family feeling, the atmosphere in De Grolsch Veste."

One would think that Celtic would have no problems parting ways with Lagerbielke on a permanent basis if the right offer was on the table. That is because it does not feel like he has a long-term future at Parkhead, even if he is doing well with FC Twente.

Celtic already have Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales, covering the starting spots. And then they have a few options behind them in the centre-back pecking order as well. So, there is not really an immediate need for Lagerbielke. Let's see what the long-term future holds for the Swedish international.
