Celtic are a club who are always on the lookout for the best rising talents in the game. It looks like one of them is very open to the idea of joining the Hoops. The club have had a strong Aussie connection over the years. Tom Rogic established himself as a Parkhead hero. On the other hand, Ange Postecoglou was instrumental to their rebuild and won five trophies in two seasons as manager. It remains to be seen how things play out for Marco Tilio, who is out on loan.
One would imagine that Celtic will have their eyes on some of the rising talents in Australian football right now. The name of Dylan Leonard has to be among them.
Centre-back is a position where you need a bit of experience. But Leonard has proven that wrong and is a regular starter for Western United at 17 years of age. Considering his club sit at third in the A-League table, it would be safe to say that he is doing a good job.
Of course, someone like Leonard might end up drawing interest from all over Europe if he keeps on performing like this. But his dream club is Celtic. He has made no secret of that.
Australian centre-back admits he wants to join Celtic
While speaking to A Leagues, Leonard named Kris Ajer and Paul McStay as players who had influenced his game. Thus, the Celtic connection is clear to see. And he said:
"That’s probably one thing I want to achieve in football is play for Celtic.
“Win something with Celtic obviously, but that’s definitely the one thing I want to do, the one club I want to play for."
It is wonderful to see a youngster like Leonard dreaming of playing for Celtic. If he continues on this path, there is no reason that that chance cannot come knocking in the future.
For now, he needs to focus on his development though. But a couple more seasons of regular football and he might be ready to make the step up. We wish him the very best and want to see him in a Celtic jersey one day.
