Celtic have seen a few players leave, who they would not have wanted to, because their contracts had run out. Greg Taylor could have been the perfect cover option for Kieran Tierney but he has moved to Greece, joining PAOK. On the other hand, Daniel Cummings has joined West Ham United after an excellent campaign with the B Team.

So, it is understandable that Celtic will want to hand out new deals to some players, in order to maintain a strong position. One of them is Johnny Kenny.

Kenny is expected to leave this summer, whether on loan or on a permanent basis. Brendan Rodgers seems to be keen for that to be the first option, if he does indeed depart. And the manager is also keen to hand him a new deal before doing that.

On the other hand, it appears that Kenny is open to that prospect. So, there is not much standing in the way. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the striker said when asked if he was keen on a new contract:

"Yes, and hopefully that can be done soon.

“I’d love to sign a new contract for this club.

“At the end of the day it’s the club I want to play for.

“Since I came back in January, I can’t describe how good the manager’s been for me.

“Obviously, he wants me to sign a new deal, so I think that’s very promising for me at this club and I’ll be happy to sign a new contract."

Kenny is a fantastic talent. We have seen him score goals on a consistent basis away on loan at Shamrock Rovers. He has not been able to show that in Celtic colours. But then again, chances have been few and far between.

At 22 years of age, he needs to be playing more consistent football. So, Kenny going out on loan might be the right step for him. Now, let's see if it ends up happening or not.

On the other hand, there is also the possibility that he could end up staying, if the club are not able to sign another striker this summer. But judging recent rumours, it does look like they are on the verge of bringing in one, if not two more.
