Celtic have made five signings this summer and are believed to be getting close to a sixth in the form of Shin Yamada. Admittedly, the Rangers have been active as well. But then, that is what you'd expect after another trophyless season for the Ibrox club. Has much changed due to the change in ownership though?
It certainly does not feel like so. There have not been any big-money signings, as they have mostly stuck to bringing in free agents or struggling Premier League players on loan deals. And now, one of their exit rumours has been proven to be false as well.
Hamza Igamane was expected to be the Rangers' big exit in this window. In fact, rumours had broken out that Lille had agreed a £15 million deal with the Ibrox club and the player had flown to France to complete the deal. As it turns out, that never happened.
How do we know that? Because a Lille club chief has confirmed that it did not. As reported by the Daily Record, Lille president Olivier Letang said when asked by La Voix Des Sports:
"He is indeed a player we are following, but we have not yet made any offers to his club."
Celtic fans laugh as Rangers rumour confirmed to be false
it remains to be seen what the future holds for Igamane and the Rangers. One thing is clear though, no big-money bid has been made or accepted so far and the rumour doing the rounds was completely rubbish.
Of course, that is not the case with the Nicolas Kuhn deal, who is set to join Como in a €19 million deal. That is not a positive for Celtic though. He was a key player and one who they will need to replace.
Hopefully, they are able to do that. The bad news is, their top target in that regard, Isak Jansson, seems to be headed elsewhere.
