Celtic fans are used to seeing their best players leave. That has been the case for a long time and it is just the reality of supporting the Parkhead club. Of course, that does not make things any easier but the supporters at least know that if a big enough offer comes in, an exit becomes inevitable. This summer, we saw Matt O'Riley join Brighton & Hove Albion in a Scottish-record move.

We might already know the identity of the player who will break that record when he inevitably leaves Celtic at some point in the future. Of course, we are talking about Nicolas Kuhn.

Kuhn has been in the form of his life for Celtic this season. In 17 appearances, he has 21 goal contributions to his name. An exceptional return for the German winger, who had endured a slow start to life after joining the Hoops in January.

Kuhn is flying at the moment though. Of course, he is no stranger to big clubs, having already spent time at RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Ajax. And if things had worked out a bit differently, he could have pulled on the FC Barcelona jersey as well.

As reported by Sport Witness, Kuhn said in a chat with SportBild when asked about claims that FC Barcelona had been interested in his development:

"Yes, that’s true. Even before I moved to RB Leipzig’s boarding school at the age of 14, there was contact between Barça and my agent. And even before my time at Ajax Amsterdam (from 2018), they wanted to sign me. But I saw a better chance of making the breakthrough at Ajax."

Of course, it is arguable whether that was the right decision on the part of Kuhn or not. FC Barcelona do have a fantastic record of developing youngsters and then giving them a chance at the senior level.

Just look at the likes of Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Pedri and several others. Could Kuhn's name have been on that list if he had decided to join FC Barcelona? It did work out quite well for Celtic in the long run though, so they'll be happy.
