This summer, quite a few players are expected to leave Celtic. Those exits are underway already and we have already witnessed some depart the club. A lot of these moves have been expected for a while. But then, there are some that come out of nowhere, either because they were part of the first-team picture at Parkhead, or we had somewhat forgotten about their situations.

It was neither of the two in the case of Celtic's latest departure. Matthew Anderson had spent the previous two seasons on loan at Admira Wacker and did quite well.

There were even some who believed that Anderson was ready to take up the backup left-back spot at Celtic if Greg Taylor signs elsewhere as expected. But unfortunately, it looks like that won't be the case.

As reported by the Glasgow Times, Anderson has made a move to Belgian second-tier side KV Kortrijk. He joins them having signed a three-year contract.

The desire to play first-team football is believed to be the driving factor behind Anderson's move. There was a year left on his contract with Celtic. Surprisingly, his departure comes just days after he had been praised by B team coach Stephen McManus, who told the Daily Record:

"He's got a massive future in the game, absolutely massive."

Unfortunately, we won't see that future unfold at Celtic. We can only wish Anderson the best though and hope that he succeeds, wherever his career takes him from here.

Anderson was expected to have a bright future at the first-team level at Parkhead but that won't happen. In fact, Ange Postecoglou had tipped him to make an impact back in January of 2023.

Of course, this is another failure on the part of Celtic to promote one of their most highly-rated talents into the senior team. This has been a problem for them for a long time now. And one can only hope that the Hoops improve in this regard as soon as possible.
