The winter transfer window is now in full flow and a ton of activity is expected at Celtic Park, both in terms of arrivals and exits, over the course of the next few weeks. The Hoops have been linked with quite a few high-profile players and are even believed to be in negotiations to bring back Kieran Tierney from Arsenal.

On the other hand, there could be some defenders on their way out as well. Greg Taylor has been linked with a move to Dinamo Zagreb recently with his contract set to run out in the summer.

Also, it looks like Stephen Welsh is on the verge of moving out on loan. He has struggled to get regular playing time for years now and it is time for a change.

As reported by the Daily Record, Welsh has arrived in Belgium to complete his loan move to KV Mechelen. Celtic have agreed terms on a loan deal until the summer. There is no option to sell.

It is understandable that Welsh wants to play regular football at this point in his career. And it is believed that Brendan Rodgers did not want to stand in his way, as he looks set to complete a loan exit in the very near future.

This could be a good opportunity for Welsh to get some first-team football and grow as a player at the senior level. We shall see what the long-term future holds after that.

At Celtic, he has been firmly behind Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Auston Trusty in the pecking order. Of course, Welsh is not the only centre-back being linked with a move away this month. Maik Nawrocki, who was signed last year, could be on his way out as well.
